We finally named the baby! Yeah!
Yesterday went pretty well overall - got to the hospital at 7, water broken by 8, contractions started by 8:45 ... then the waiting began ... 2 cm, 3cm, 3 1/2 cm, 4 cm, 4 cm, 4cm ... then bam - within an hour 6 cm, 8 cm, ready to push! That last hour was very stressful - every time I had a contraction, the baby's heart rate would dip waaaaay down, so the doctor knew she was in distress. This happened when my mom was having me and she had to have an emergency c-section. This also happened with Dillon - when he was born, the cord was wrapped around his neck twice! So I thought here we go again ... we could tell the doctor was getting way more serious. She said "this is disappointing" and Dion and I both thought we were going to be rushed to the OR, but the little girl hung in there and popped on out! The other thing we were worried about of course is her lung development. When I got tested last week the levels were very immature for lung development, so I was worried that would add to the complications, but then we heard that sweet little thing cry! I don't think we have ever heard anything so reassuring!
Then it just kept getting better from there - she weighed in at 5 lbs 6 oz!! (Remember the doctors said 4 something - between 4 lbs 11 oz and 4 lbs 15 oz ... she showed them!) And she got a 9 and a 9 out of possible 10s for the apgar tests. AND - they let her stay with us until 7:30 or a little later - so over 2 hours! When the ped nurses left her with us, I knew she must be perfectly fine - and perfectly fine she is!!
I can't wait for everyone to meet her! She is just the sweetest little thing! She looks a lot like Dillon - A LOT! I am very excited about that! When Dion and I looked at pictures this morning of when Dillon was born, he looks BIG! (He was born 6 lbs 10 oz! That one pound is noticeable!)
Check out these pictures!
